A Landform is a natural and exceptional feature of the solid surface of the Earth. In our world, Landform is a reaffirmation of our commitment to creating wines that evoke a sense of place. With an emphasis on quality and experience, this grassroots project extends the Grounded Wine Co. landscape to bring you our latest terroir-driven wine, a unique Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley, Oregon.
2021 Pinot Noir, Willamette ValleyLandform
The 2019 Landform Willamette Valley Pinot Noir was crafted from a trifecta of Pinot Noir clones (Pommard, Wadenswil, and Dijon) grown at our four sustainably and organically-farmed vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills and Chehalem Mountain AVAs. A mild winter and wet, warm spring set the stage for the 2019 growing season. Ample rainfall in late June and early July, plus cool conditions, slowed growth and resulted in very gradual ripening. We harvested our fruit under favorable conditions in late September, and the resulting wines from the cool season retained excellent fresh, natural acidity.
Diligent sorting and gentle de-stemming allowed us to keep almost 100% of the berries unbroken. We cold-soaked for 3 days and started pumping over slowly and carefully as fermentation progressed. Aging in stainless and the absence of oak produced this pure and iconic Pinot Noir. The final 100% Pinot Noir blend was bottled in August 2020.
The 2019 Landform Pinot Noir is a charming and nuanced expression of the variety. Aromatically, the wine is complex, with Bing cherry, loganberry, and spicy cola notes. In the mouth, there is superb freshness and vitality, with full-throttle red berry flavors, good texture and a generous finish.
